Air source heat pumps explained

Air source heat pumps absorb heat from the outside air to heat your home and your hot water, even in the cooler months. They look similar to air conditioning units and still need electricity to run, but because their heat output is greater than the electricity input, they are much more energy-efficient than traditional methods of heating your home.

There are two main types of air source heat pumps:

Air-to-water – heat is absorbed from the outside air and transferred to your central heating system. This system will also provide hot water.

Air-to-air – heat is absorbed from the outside air and circulated around your home via fans. These systems cannot produce hot water, but they can be used like an air conditioning unit in summer to cool your home.
