Project Details
The Tilba Tilba Project involved the intricate retrofit of a geothermal hydronic heating system within a property that combines the elegance of a French chateau with the charm of an English manor, situated in the picturesque hills of Tilba Tilba. This project required meticulous planning and execution to preserve the architectural integrity of this stunning home while integrating a state-of-the-art heating solution.
Key Challenges
ARCHITECTURAL PRESERVATION
Ensuring the new system blended seamlessly with the building’s historical aesthetics was paramount. Every aspect of the retrofit was designed to maintain the visual & structural integrity of the property.
COMPLEX PIPEWORK
Installing the necessary pipework presented significant challenges due to the building's existing structure & the need to conceal modern mechanical components without altering the home's character.
DIFFICULT SITE CONDITIONS
The installation of the ground collector system was particularly challenging. Located on the side of a hill, the site experienced unprecedented rainfall & flooding, complicating excavation & installation efforts.
System Details
HEAT PUMP
The system is powered by two Stiebel Eltron WPEI 15H ground source heat pumps. These units are renowned for their efficiency and reliability, providing not only heating but also domestic hot water and pool heating.
GROUND COLLECTOR
The collector system comprises 2400 metres of piping, meticulously laid out and connected to a central manifold. This configuration ensures optimal heat exchange and system efficiency.
INSTALLATION
The installation process involved extensive excavation under adverse weather conditions, highlighting the resilience and expertise of the installation team.
Project Highlights
CLIENT RELATIONSHIP
The project fostered a strong, lasting relationship with the clients, Martin and Gwynne. Their understanding and support were instrumental in overcoming the project’s challenges, and they have since become valued friends.
COMMUNITY & TEAM SPIRIT
Despite the hurdles, the project was marked by a spirit of camaraderie and collaboration. The shared challenges led to a strengthened bond among team members and with the clients, making the project’s success particularly meaningful.
The Tilba Tilba Project stands as a testament to the ability to marry modern technology with historical elegance. The successful implementation of the geothermal hydronic heating system not only enhances the comfort and sustainability of the home but also preserves its unique architectural beauty.
